Watters Bridal Gowns Biography

It all started 26 years ago with a few dresses handmade for friends and family. Turns out, there was a niche for well designed special occasions dresses, and it caught on in a big way. By the late ’80s Watters was a treasured name in the bridal wear industry.
Always looking forward, the company continues to evolve and currently offers designer bridal gowns, affordable bridal gowns, and dresses for bridesmaids, mother of the wedding, junior bridesmaids, and flower girls under the brand names of Watters, Wtoo, Encore, C20, Seahorse. Last year the Encore collection was launched – stylish dresses designed to go from cocktail parties to rehearsal dinners to post-wedding events.
And beginning in 2013, Watters announced Watters wedding veils and Watters bridal accessories. Watters Veils by Toni Federici and Watters Accessories by Thomas Knoell collections are exciting new additions to the Watters and Wtoo lines and will help brides to exquisitely finish their look.
Vatana Watters continues to be at the heart of the company and is passionately involved in setting the design tone. Her inspirations emanate from her heritage, experience on both coasts and the desire to reflect the spirit of the times. Vatana recognizes that design is where it starts, but not where it ends. And that’s why Watters continues to be appreciated for being a cut above for quality and responsiveness.Melissa Sweet is an American fashion designer best known for her collection of bridal and bridesmaids gowns. She established her own bridal company in 1996, and began creating handmade wedding gowns in Atlanta, Georgia. Her style is distinctly modern and dreamlike, combining luxurious fabrics like silk with unique ruffling and pleating.
In 2005, Melissa Sweet merged with another popular bridal line, Priscilla of Boston. Together, the two companies expanded on their original visions of luxurious bridal gowns made of high quality materials for brides of all shapes and sizes. Both lines were carried in Priscilla of Boston boutiques across the United States until Priscilla of Boston closed the doors to their salons in early 2012.
Melissa Sweet’s bridal gowns are easily distinguishable by their dramatic sleeves and fabric embellishing. From puffed lace sleeves to large, fabric flowers, both her wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses stand out in terms of individuality and flair. Her use of vibrant color in her bridesmaids dresses, such as fire engine red and electric yellow are loved by brides wanting to have bright, vibrant dresses worn by their wedding party.
Proportion and scale are two things that Melissa Sweet’s dresses focus on. Each of her dress designs place emphasis on flattering the wearer’s figure through use of symmetry. From high-collared tea length dresses to sweeping off-the shoulder gowns, her dresses are made to flatter women of any size or shape. She has designed targeted towards women with a large bust, as well as dresses aimed towards women who are more petite.
Designer Vera Wang PhotoVera Wang started her career as an editor within Vogue Magazine, where she worked for an incredible 16 years. She then took a two year leave of absence from Vogue and moved to Paris, before continuing her career at Ralph Lauren. Vera then decided to open her own business in the early 1990’s, but the idea to create wedding dresses started several years before that. Vera was engaged and searching for the perfect wedding dress, but during the weeks of searching, she came to the conclusion that all of the dresses had the same basic concept and feel about them—nothing allowed the bride to truly stand out.
As Vera enjoyed the rapid success of her wedding gown company, she decided that she would expand her line to offer more than just wedding dresses. She has introduced clothing lines for formal evening wear, and is one of the most sought after designers for red carpet events worldwide. She has also created costumes for professional and Olympic figure skaters, in an effort to reconnect with her childhood passion of figure skating. She has worked with figure skaters such as Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan, and has also had some of her work showcased on Monday Night Football, when she created cheer-leading uniforms for the Philadelphia Eagles team.
Vera Wang has since expanded her reach to numerous other avenues, including jewelry, perfumes and cologne. Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the first actresses to show off the new Vera Wang jewelry collection during the 2003 Emmy Awards. The designs are meant to accentuate the natural beauty of her clothing lines without overwhelming the wearer. In 2004, she introduced her silver gift lines. These included products such as flat-ware and other notable wedding gifts that reflect the creative genius that has been synonymous with all of the Vera Wang collections to date. Still, with all of these new endeavors, nothing can compare to her collection of bridal gowns.
The Vera Wang Spring Collection of 2012 reflected a bit of a darker note, when she cited Alice in Wonderland as a type of theme. It still has the traditional airy and relaxed look and feel that Vera Wang is known for, while offering nipped waist lines. As usual, her designs compliment a wide range of tastes, showcasing skirts and dresses that had a lower cut to the front of the designs while the rear portion of the piece had longer tails that often times got referenced as ‘billowing trails of smoke’ as the models moved. This angular cut is setting trends for the current and forthcoming seasons, lending a modern and contemporary edge to her otherwise flowing designs.
